all drives make SOME noise..
some more than others..
minimum you will hear the drive seeking..
others have a slight spindle noise.. some have more noise and COULD be replaced
under warranty..
i have one 5.1gig drive that IBM won't take back and replace that is almost
unbearable to use due to noise..

the best anyone can do is cherry pick the MOST silent drive from a group of
drives..
