Hi List,

Just wanted clarify something, particularly after getting a message from
Doug at Maximum Upgrades, asking where he might have said something that
was innacurate. I fear we got off on a tangent, and I'd like to set the
record straight:

Doug has not, to my knowledge, ever promised a 2 to 3 times systemic
performance increase. His only claim has been a 2 to 3 times CPU
performance increase.

I just pointed out that doesn't directly translate to a *systemic*
multiple, and somehow the two got intertwined.

I apologize for my part in the mixup. My criticism is mainly upon what I
see to be a consideration of this CPU performance increase in a vacuum
apart from the system. An additional criticism is that I *suspect* (though
I do not know) that the benchmarks used to see this 2 to 3 times CPU
performance increase are of a type called "synthetic" bechmarks which
are...err...not very accurate, IMO. An oft-quoted one is called
"Landmark", and its not one I would rely on.

At any rate, I wanted to point out that Doug has *never* to my knowledge
claimed a 2 to 3 times *system* performance increase, only a 2 to 3 times
*CPU* performance increase. I am sorry that my response to that claim has
mucked up the issue somewhat, particularly when my intent was to clarify,
rather than confuse. I don't mean to cast an unnecessarily poor light on
Doug or Maximum Upgrades, especially if perceived over something that
he/they did not actually say. To top it all off, I have to say he/they
have been very good sports to be willing to rise up to the challenge
presented to them.

Just wanted to get that out, as I have come to realize I was guilty of
allowing a misconception to pervade.

That said, I am genuinely interested in the results of the benchmark when
this is done.

Regards to all,
- Randy Whittle
