This is a major wear point, IMO, fot all notebooks..
the cable between the base and top wears out after Xthousand flex cycles...

AND, there are four different cables.. two for the two different variations of LCD placement and two for each display style (TFT and DSTN)...

i'm not sure if the cable can be had by itself, but i rather think not, though i may try to learn more since this problem seems to be cropping up more frequently..
