I read all the replies and theres nothing i can think of to add...
well, except to say that the D: partition was, most likely, fat32..
the fdisk solution might work..
in the past, i've started a format and then aborted it, to find the
target partition intact and complete..
one question, have you tried looking at the drive while booting from a
floppy..
