Wonder of all wonders, where the more expensive
Tiramasiu could not recover the particular files I
needed in addition to forcing me to sort through the
numerous directories arcanely renamed to arbitrarily
numbered directories just to see what files could be
recovered, which I did twice, by the way, just to be
sure I didn't miss it, Powerquest's less expensive
Lost & Found managed to recover the files I needed,
showing them in the original directories and names for
the most part.
Whew, was the above an understandable sentence? I did
re-partition the drive (D) but that did not restore
it. So I downloaded the demo versions of Tiramasiu and
Lost & Found, which will tell you what files are
recoverable but not recover them. The rest, as they
say, are about to become history.
At any rate, it looks like about 50% of the files are
recoverable, though how many are actually intact vs.
corrupted I don't know since I haven't had time to go
through them. Anyone know about Quicken file
structures?
To bring this sad saga to a close, I've got to give
props to all the List-subscribers who gave advice,
made suggestions, and showed sympathy, including but
not limited to, and in no particular order:
Bill Morrow -- there can only be one. 'Nuff said.
Serenella Ciongoli -- helpful beyond the scope of my
poor ability to describe, truly a prince among men.
Pitak Chenkosol -- wonderfully encouraging and
ultimately on target with his suggestion of L&F.
David Ross -- mathematician/TPer nonpareil.
Keith Wong, Juan-Carlos Lerman, Steve Andre, Rob Bell,
Jeffrey Baker, and the enigmatic letoured_at_sover.net.
You guys are the best.
Much thanks to you all and to all a good night.
