I *believe* they are refurbed, not just used - at least, compgeeks usually sells refurbed and remaindered products - I'm kind of
curious where *they* got them, assuming they have several (they usually say 'almost gone' on few-offs).

The concern is a good one. I bought my 4x refurbed a couple of years ago and it still works great (I don't use it all that often,
mainly for software installation, but it *has* traveled quite a bit). However,
CD-Roms do go out of alignment in time - for example, the CD in my Micron laptop recently stopped working (and replacements not
readily available:-(

BTW, if you haven't seen one close up, these drives are pretty nice - very sturdy, very thin (I often
slip mine alongside my TP560 in the form-fitting Wetsuit case).

Compgeeks is kind of annoying, but reasonably trustworthy. I've ordered from the several times,
all but once there were minor glitches, but each time things finally came out to my satisfaction. I don't think they are trying to
hide anything!

***Special Note to the zillion people who asked what I'd want for my old CD: While I'd gladly pay,
say, $50 to magically transform my current drive to the faster one, I'm a little leery of working a swap
deal, mainly because my drive *is* old, and I'd really hate to stick anyone on this list with something
that lasts only a year. Also, because I live in Hawaii, the shipping of the new drive to me,
and that of my old drive to someone off-island, would eat up a fair hunk of the price differential.
But, if I do buy a new one I'll let you all have first crack at the old:-)
