Actually, you are correct, it is in fact an IBM Travelstar, however,
it is a standard EIDE drive, not proprietary. I have been able
to use several different drives with my 760ED (all IBM, but different
sizes, both different heights, 9.5,12.5,17mm, and from 340MB to 3.2GB)

Yup. Shouldn't be a problem... I've been doing those upgrades for all my 'Pads.
In fact, I even have a 3.2GB drive in my TP750 (and it makes a great
application/mp3 server). Just make sure you jumper the drive
correctly so it's the master drive.
Also, a recomendation - I noticed when I was using the newer 9.5mm drives in
my 760, I had to upgrade the BIOS. Prior to doing so, when trying
to hibernate to the ultrathin drive in OS/2, Windows 98, etc., the machine
would totally lockup. So you might also consider a BIOS upgrade.
If you/anyone has any other questions about upgrading the HD's in ANY ThinkPads
(up to the 760), feel free to send me an on or off-list email.
