my guess is, in order..
1. bad plugs,
need to take machine apart to reseat these.. perhaps clean with "Morrows Magic
Display, Case and Garage Floor" cleaner... :-)

2. bad cable,
wiggle top, partially disassemble machine and push here and there, watching for
change in display...

or, for 1 & 2 above, plug external monitor in and see if it emulates this problem
when the display does so...

3. bad video..
if external display does the same thing as the display, then it seems like the
video subsystem...
