Well, as I said, it was on a TI, not an IBM. Um, the story of how I got it is kind of funny. We needed a new cover for the TI, and
so I went down to what was then Computer City. They sold a variety of models with trackpoints - IBM, TI, Toshiba, etc. - and so I
figured they'd have a cover from at least one of them. When I asked at the appropriate counter, I was told that they didn't sell
them, didn't know where to find one, and would I please go away. So, I ambled over to the laptop section, and when a salescreature
descended on me I asked the same question - he went into the back, came out again, and repeated what I was told before. "What?" I
asked loudly, "you sell the machines but not the consumables?" When he said they weren't consumables but parts, I pointed out all
the machines on display missing their covers, "and they're brand new, too!" I didn't do this quietly - Keith would probably
classify me as "one loud Haole" - and soon I had lots of laptop customers paying attention to my argument that it was ridiculous to
sell trackpoint machines but not spare covers. Finally - I assume to get rid of me - someone showed up with the aforementioned
black cover and gave it to me.
I hope the would-be laptop customers who were there all learned from me; after all, the state does pay me to educate her citizens!
