This works OK (like the isopropyl) if you get the acetone-based remover; there are newfangled non-acetone polish removers that are
not good solvents for electrical contacts, and which can also leave a slightly resistive residue. I wouldn't use acetone on a
battery, and not just because of the plastic case. (I'd be afraid that some would slip inside by a capillary action and cause an
unwanted reaction - after all, some batteries can explode if mistreated.) The advantage of the contact enhancers is that they not
only clean, but also increase the conductive surface area, and protect against many future problems.
(PS to Keith: I found my bottle of Deoxit at IC supply down by the airport, for about $10)
