I've tried Microsoft's shutdown troubleshooter on their support site, and
installing the Win98 "hangs at shutdown" patch from them, with no luck so
far. I might just revert back to Win95 OSR2 and see what happens.

It seemed to have already been upgraded. The fourth page of settings
identifies it as BUTUS3O, from 12/15/95.

I'd be very curious to get my hands on this utility. I've skimmed the
archives for 1997 and 1998 for this mailing list, reading most of the posts
that mentioned the 701 in the subject, but haven't come across anything about
this yet.
