I was in the same situation: 701C with no floppy drive, port replicator, or
OS. My solution was to get a 2.5"-to-3.5" IDE adapter for $10 and connect my
701C's hard drive to my desktop computer. That allowed me to fdisk and
format the drive, then stuff it full of Windows installation files. The only
trick was making the drive's partition "active" with fdisk; This required
disconnecting my other drives and booting from a floppy, then running fdisk.
However, this worked great and got me up and running quickly.

(P.S. Has anyone had luck locating that utility for resetting the 701's
battery timers? I'd love to get my hands on a copy. Thanks in advance..)
