Hi,
A couple of days ago I wrote about a 560E with a trackpoint that goes only
N-S. After hearing from a couple of people that this is not a big problem
(worst case replace the keyboard) I decided to buy the unit.
OK, looking at the IBM support site the first line of advice for this error
("8611") is to reseat the keyboard connector to the motherboard. This sounds
good to me, but I've not taken a TP apart before. I'm sure several of you
have extensive experience under-the-hood. Are there any gotcha's I should be
aware of before pulling screws?
Second, if it happens I need another keyboard are there any suggestions as
to where to go? Is it possible to buy a replacement from IBM? Should I have
them or someone else install the thing?
Words of wisdom, tales of woe are all much appreciated.
Michael
