One thing about Quantum is that Quantum itself does not make any drives
- they are OEM'd from another Japanese company. I forgot the name, but
the point is that they are like Dell's laptop division in that they make
nothing - they just put the Quantum sticker on the drive. So if Seagate
keeps the same suppliers for Quantum, which I think they will, there
should be no change in the quality of Quantum-branded drives.
I have had only one problem with a Quantum, a 5.25" 1.2GB Bigfoot I
purchased that went bad in less than a year. Replaced it with a 3.5"
3.2GB IBM, no problems. IMHO it's worth the extra few $ for an IBM
drive. YMMV for 2.5" drives of course. The 120MB Connor drive the
Bigfoot replaced was still working fine the last time I used it (as a
backup when the Bigfoot failed).
