Obviously everyone is entitled to their opinion on things, but there are
some good reasons why the external case is plastic. Weight, strength and
durability are among them. Remember the 770 (and others) problem of the
flaking paint on the palm rests, etc? That will never happen on the i
Series. The plastic is pretty rugged, too--I've had a few (cough)
experiences with their coming to the floor unexpectedly, and they've
all come through OK.

But perhaps the best test of a laptop is to look in places like comp.
sys.laptop and look for people's complaints about their units. LOTS of
people complain about things like their disks making more and more noise
over time, and some complaints on things like the screen hinges and
keyboards, but I haven't heard many comments about the case having
problems or peices falling off, etc.

I think the real test for these units will be how many are still in
good working order five years from now. I think they'll do OK, but
I have several years to wait on this one. I think the i series is a
reasonable one.
