Does anyone know why IBM partitioned the drive for this machine into a
2-GB, 16-bit FAT partition and a 10-GB, 32-bit FAT one?
Also, why Norton SpeedDisk won't run on the D: partition? It says
"Drive D may not be configured correctly. Norton Speed Disk cannot run
on this drive. Please consult the ReadMe.txt file for more information
on this problem." But, the ReadMe.txt file for Norton System Works 2000
v3 doesn't say a word about it.
- Some of Symantec's support files say to run FDISK and check for a
diagnostic cylinder on the hard drive, which shows up if the logical
partitions add up to the same number megabytes as the total disk size
reported by FDISK, and this checked out okay, but their files are really
confusing in this area.
-- They also suggest changing the registry to skip the drive
configuration check, but then they say if the drive's configured wrong,
you could lose data. I followed their advice here, by adding
"NOLBACHECK"=dword:00000001 to the [HKLM\Software\Symantec\Norton
Utilities] registry key, and now SpeedDisk seems to work.
Is anyone running Norton SpeedDisk on the D: drive successfully in this
machine?
Thank you very much!
