Steve,

My comment was not to imply that the i-Series was of a fundamentally
lesser quality that the rest of the TP line, only that IBM made a
business decision to offer a new line of lower priced TPs via the
mass-marketing channels, and to sell them based on the reputation
of the ThinkPad name.

Go to the Thinkpad's sales page.
http://commerce.www.ibm.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=203572
4&cgmenbr=1&cntry=840&lang=en_US
It says...
"ThinkPad: There's a reason everyone wants one. It's not about the
awards they've won, or how cool they are. It's about how hard they
work for you...anywhere." IBM then lists "value" (I read price)
as a main selling point on 3 of the 6 TPs on the page.

How does that old adage in business go? "Low price, quality, or
service - choose any 2 of the 3."

Mark
