attached mail follows:
Hello,
I have been watching posts about both the IBM Thinkpad A20p & T20
series with interest over these past weeks.
I am very surprised that people would pay $4000 for a Notebook sight
unseen.
I have seen both the A20p & the T20 14" Models.
IBM has "Retail Stores" in every major city in Canada. They are "in
stock" and
"on display" at these locations.
If you are in Seattle, I would suggest that you take a quick "3hr" drive
up to
Vancouver, BC, Canada.
These units are available for sale and on display at:
IBM Store
Pacific Center Mall
777 Dunsmuir st.
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Ph: 604-681-0411
As of yesterday I believe they had (5) A20p's & (5-10) T20's "In Stock".
I tried both units and have a very reserved opinion of them.
Someone earlier posted their "disappointment" with the T20 keyboard.
Here are my thoughts;
Both the A20p & T20 have a keyboard that feels like the "i series". The
Thinkpad 600E-X is far superior and feels more solid & sturdy. Those of
you
that like the Thinkpad 600 series keyboard "will" be disappointed.
The A20p reminds me of the 390 & "i series" in build quality and
"feel". The
A20p looks like a bigger Thinkpad i1560 when its in front of you in a
closed
position. Obviously the specs of the A20p are superior. The A20p has a
plastic
bottom. The Titanium Composite is in the cover only. (ThinkPad A20p
models
only) Basically if you have seen a A20m - then you have seen the A20p.
Build
quality is about the same.
The screen of the A20p has about the same "icon" resolution of the
13.3"
Thinkpad 600x screen with a 15" form factor.
(the icon's appear to be about the same size when the units are side by
side)
BTW the "Ultra Port" connector at the top of the screen only comes with
the
A20p. No A20m has this feature.
In my opinion the T20 "feels" much better subjectivly than the A20
series. It
has the Titanium Composite in the cover and the base. It has a more
solid and
"expensive" feel.
Yes, they are both fast - but not substantually faster than a 600X.
I have tried most of the IBM Thinkpad product line. I feel that IBM
should have
slimmed down the TP 770Z. It had a winner there but needed a
PIII500-700mhz
processor in it. The TP600X is "outstanding" - it feels like a Thinkpad
should.
Any way - these are only my opinions. I have posted the IBM store
address and
phone number for those of you that may want to see a $4000 Notebook
before you
buy it.
- Thx
