The discussion several months ago was about putting a 64 meg module into
the 701C, upping the RAM to 68/72 megs. Using a 32 meg module to raise it
to 36/40 megs has been done for quite some time; in fact, when IBM used to
sell a 32 meg SO-DIMM for the 701C, they listed the max RAM at 40, but
when they stopped selling it, they lowered the spec to 24.

I upped my 701C's RAM to 40 megs by buying an industry standard 72-pin
3.3v DRAM SO-DIMM from Alpha Memory (www.memory.com) for about $55 around
6 months ago. They listed a 701C-specific part for more money (IBM calls
this part 92G7281), but the generic part works just fine. RAM prices have
gone up a bit since then, so your mileage may vary.

BTW, someone did get the 701C to accept a 64 meg SO-DIMM, raising the max
RAM to 72 megs. If I remember correctly, there was nothing too special
about the part; it was just a standard 72-pin SO-DIMM, I believe.
