Peruse the README and manual files for the DVD decoder very carefully.
Sometime ago, someone discovered their machine's (I forget if it was a
Thinkpad) DVD decoder could not support interlaced output, thus making
DVD viewing on a TV impossible. You may be in the same situation, in
which case even if you get the laptop display on the TV, once you
activate DVD playback the display will switch back to the LCD panel.
