That sounds like a bad LILO setup. Are you running Linux? "LI" is
lilo's way of saying something is wrong.
I've seen this happen when you install a new kernel and forget to run
lilo. I believe lilo encodes actual disk blocks and such so it can load
and configure the kernel. If you change files without running it again,
its disk blocks can be incorrect.
I would recommend booting Linux from a diskette and rerunning lilo.
