Thanks, I Lee Hetherington and Mark Davis for your LILO/Linux tip, (and to Greg Langham for the suggestion on isolating whether this was a boot record issue.)
Indeed, this computer had previously been configured to dual boot to Linux and Windows by the previous owner. I'm not sure what went on with the machine during the transfer between the two owners, but I believe someone attempted to remove Linux.
So, if I run FDISK /MBR, what state will that restore the MBR to? What will the machine try to boot to? Any thoughts as to why this only suddenly stopped working?
