I'm surprised the Ranger Regiment is using office equipment; I take it
the TPs are not brought into the field; there are a bunch of ruggedized
laptops made for such use, and IBM is not one of the manufacturers.
Panasonic is. Can't remember the others (Rocky?), but I recall reading a
review of these, and one of the tests involved hosing down the laptop
with water, then opening the CD drive to demonstrate the bone-dry CD
inside. Oh, and the 3 foot concrete drop, and the drive-over-with-SUV
(Panasonic invited the editors to use a Hummer) test too. Quite
impressive.

Not to knock Thinkpads - I too am an owner after all - but sturdy is
very relative.
