I stand corrected.
However, does that ABS/PVC solvent work where there is a gap?
My spare 701 took a horrible fall to a tile floor, resulting in
a rupture of the hinge and the lid will no longer close. By
the time I got it to where I could attempt to repair, various
pieces of plastic had flaked away from the hinge break. I used
goop and two chopsticks (bamboo is better than wood) and when I
carry the thing (not often) I put a sock in its mouth to
prevent the lid from closing and breaking my "repair" or worse.
It's ugly as sin (maybe nobody will want to steal it), but
aside from the sock, I need no special care. I can open or
almost close the lid without doing any (apparent) further
damage.
Eventually, I hope to repair this from a "parts" machine. I'm
in the market for a 701 parts machine with a good lid and with a
good keyboard. Or two good keyboards.
Incidentally, I still haven't seen anybody selling those
thousands of 701 keyboards that IBM was remaindering. I
wonder, is the purchaser remanufacturing, will the butterfly
arise again?
