This makes perfect sense, as it now seems obvious that I've just
worn through the thin metalic plating, exposing the black
plastic substrate (rather than some esoteric chemical reaction
turning the metalic surface black). If I wanted a new-looking
TP, the entire part would have to be replaced, and I'd want an
improved version, not the same vulnerable original design.
Considering that this kind of repair would be out of warranty,
would it be very expensive? Something I could do at home?
