Hmm, that's a point I should consider too (I live in a clean city
but always manage to rub up against objects).

Technically its depth is right at the limit set by many airlines
(9") although TWA is 10". Having the LapDog for the computer is
good, as you say you can take it out before stowing the backpack
and not have to go back up for it during flight. "Skycheck" (where
you leave your bag beside the plane and pick it up when you get
off) isn't too bad if you know it's coming (the bags don't travel
too far), what's worse is you never know when a big plane will be
full and they'll make you gate-check (often into regular cargo,
i.e. pick up at carousel) it!

It's really important to have that flexibility. Once I discovered
my 18" wheeled bag would just do for a week's trip, I could pack
light and go with no checked bags (stuff jammed everywhere) or I
could take a checked suitcase if I needed "good clothes".

When I order, I'll check. I wouldn't be surprised if the same
shoulder strap still comes with it, as a no-charge option. It's
hard to believe a super comfortable deluxe strap, designed as an
upgrade on the messenger bags, would be required for a bag that
really only holds my 5lb notebook! (Perhaps they found a lot of
people were only using the LapDog inside something else, and didn't
want a shoulder strap to deal with).

Thanks again for your comments!
