I have been looking to upgrade the "backup" 701 to 40 MB of
RAM, meaning a 32 MB SO-DIMM.
IBM has evidently discontinued this item, but earlier it was
FRU 92G7284 , or part number 92G7281
Some other manufacturers give equivalents:
Piiceon 907-7132
Kingston KTM-TP701/32
Southland SMM 32MB-TP701
Transcend TS32MTP701
Viking I7281
(the best page I found on these numbers was a commerce site:
http://www.
streetprices.com/Electronics/Computer_Hardware_PC/Memory/Proprietary/IBM/32MB/
)
A price search found prices between $65 and $167.27 (I'm not
kidding) for this part or its equivalent. I'm not sure if the
$65 was legit, in which case the lowest price would be $78.44
for the Kingston equivalent.
I'm wondering if anybody has tried using something more
generic, and has it worked? I vaguely recall some discussion
to that effect here.
IBM's description states:
70 ns / non-parity / 3.3 volt.
IBM also states "360, 750, 755 family ... memory ... NOT
compatible in the ... 701 family"
