There's still a bunch of us 730 T & TE tinkerers around. Thanks for letting me use the forum to share this information.

The Xircom CEM56/100BTX Ethernet/Modem combo pcmcia card works great for both WFPC and W95 operating systems. It's a 56k modem with 10/100 lan operation. Evidently, part of the success is that it's a 16 bit card with real mode drivers on the install cd-rom. The drivers are easily transferred to floppy disk for Windows 3.11 installation if you don't have a portable cd rom for the thinkpad. I've had some luck with other single use cards, but only after lots of tinkering. This puppy installed for each operating system on the first try. Finally; I added TCP/IP for Windows 3.11 allowing me to connect the 730TE to the Linksys router I have for my home network. The 730T and TE have four pcmcia slots; though after using two for the type III hard drive, and the third for a d-ram memory card there is only one pcmcia slot available for connecting to the outside world. The cards are not too expensive either. I've paid between $35 and $50 for them new in the box on ebay. The card acts nicely with fax software, as well as a phone dialer.

Hope this will help.
