Hello.

The most common problem with " Digital " PABX lines is,
Reduced resistance from terminating point,
and increased loadshare signaling waveform ' stronger signal than norm '

An easy way to fix this is with a set of veristors in series with the loop '
the line '.
If one also incorporates a R.F. choke, this will solve most traveling
problems.
The device CAN be built into a standard telephone jack, indeed, several
hotels have
'phones with a protected modem jack, you can also get an old USOC network
protector, the latest ones are smaller than the power supply for the
701C/CS.
You can also build some protection into the modem itself.
ZOOMguard, modemsaver, lineguard, travLgard. all trade names for the same
basic idea.
I feel that a line protection plan of some sort, above the standard gas
discharge protection provided by the telco is a good idea, after all,
discharge point is around 200 volts, and rise time is real slow.
