Let's see, you say that this problem occurs all the time. Does this
happen when the IBM logo is on the screen?
If it does, then boot the system up to the Thinkpad Setup/Test and run
the display test program. If the system "fails" the tests, call IBM and
have the system serviced (if under warrenty).

My 760ED is now setting in a DOCK II. It will get hot enough to 'melt'
flesh even with the 'heat pad'. This is why most of the later Thinkpads
have fans... However, the thing that I do is to use a heavy towel,
folded in half to keep the heat away.
I bought a 600E to replace the 760ED, and I do run LINUX and Windows98
(OEM) on it.
