Hello Group!
I have the following sitting in a corner of the office collecting
dust... since I have gleaned much valuable info from this group over the
years, these are offered here first.
1 ugly complete 701C and 2 parts units: 1-701C and 1-701CS
The story goes like this... the complete 701C is 75/40MB/1.3 GIG.. A/C,
Battery (NiMh), Floppy, Multiport, All Cables included, and original IBM
701 Manual... This unit was put together from various machines.. works
OK, but looks kinda "ratty" underneath the keyboard at the front..you
know, where those tiny tiny tiny Torx T1 screws are?..The keyboard does
not lie flat when closed, because the strip holding the keyboard to the
T1 screws was pried up and then reglued (not by me!).
The bottom case could be replaced with the case from either of the other
2-701's
Second unit is a 701C..75/16MB/1.2 GIG.. DEAD ACTIVE MATRIX SCREEN..
Bottom board and top board test OK..inverter card is OK..Replaced screen
with a dual-scan screen from a 701 CS and Voila!! instant 701CS machine!
Third 701 is a CS with a working bottom system board, top board, and
top and bottom case, with a dead inverter and dead "C" screen...
Altogether I have 1-32MB RAM, 1-8MB RAM, 4 batteries... 1 Ni-Cd and 3
Ni-Mh...all good, as far as I know...1 floppy drive, 2 floppy drive
cables, 1 printer cable, 2 A/C adapters, 2 Multiports, 3 or 4 hard drive
caddies, a tin full of various screws and parts ( why does IBM put them
there in the first place, when I can install the whole machine back
together and still have these things left over!!)...not a good thing, as
Martha would say...Whatever is laying around here and even remotely
looks like it is a kissing-cousin to a 701 gets added to the pile!..Also
have the 701 HMM in PDF..can email to you if you don't already have the
IBM address..
Everything listed (and keyboards) works fine... BUT THE SECOND 2 UNITS
ARE DISMEMBERED AND LABELLED... and the first main unit should probably
be taken apart and transferred to one of the other shells...like I say,
it looks pretty dismal...
755C - 50 Mhz/20/720 with floppy, A/C adapter, and battery that holds a
charge about as long as I can hold my breath...
Unit has either been refurbished or used by someone who can't type,
because the keyboard and screen look absolutely brand new... Unit
looks good and SCREAMS...( well, if 50 Mhz could be considered as a
screamer that is...)
The 1.2 and 1.3 GIG H/D are loaded with WIN 95... the 720 MB is
formatted DOS and has WIN 3.1 loaded.
I would like to sell the 701's as 1 lot, and the 755 too, if you require
same... I live in London, Ontario and truck down to L.A. every 10 days
or so.. I am only home 3 or 4 days a month, and do not have the time to
re-assemble these units, nor do I use them.. I can ship everything via
UPS from Michigan, avoiding any customs hassles.. Please don't ask me to
sell individual parts and pieces ( unless you are REALLY REALLY
REALLYdesperate OR can set me up with a date with a Playboy
centerfold!) My only other option is to part them out on Ebay, but: 1)
I am short of time to catalogue every spare part for sale or to
re-assemble these units, 2) I am not trying to make my fortune selling
used computer parts.
I can supply system board serial numbers if you require... no pics..not
set up for it...
My bank holds all American cheques for 10 days.. they will cash an
INTERNATIONAL money order immediately. I will ship upon the bank's
creditation of your funds to my account... if you're not happy with the
condition of the lot, then I will return your money, but you pay the
return shipping ( I have a U.S. Ship To: address in Indiana )
701C and Cs.. the lot: $ 395 U.S. Funds, and I'll pay the shipping..(
will be a 30 pound box !)
755C.. $225 U.S. Funds, and I'll pay the shipping.
These were for a project that I never had time to complete, so if
anybody is interested please let me know via email.. I try and catch up
on that every 2 or 3 days on the road, so please be patient.
Thanks and Regards.
