Okay, here's something kinda related to this same problem...
For the last week or two, my T20 with Win2K doesn't want to shut down "all
the way" *or* suspend. The symptom is that it seems to go through its
entire shut down procedure just fine, even to the dialog box saying,
"Saving your settings", and I hear the hard drive stop spinning...but then
it just leaves the blue background up with the mouse pointer in the middle,
and the TFT screen w/ backlight on. It is as if the final thing it needs
to do--shut the screen off--just doesn't happen.
I hold the power button down for a few seconds, and it shuts off. It also
boots normally (without running any disk utilities or acting as if it was
shut down improperly), as well as doing a "restart" normally (where it
doesn't need to shut off).
Frankly, I wouldn't care about having to hold the power button to turn it
all the way off, but this also affects the suspend function--it doesn't
fully go into suspend because it doesn't shut off the screen. That *does*
affect me a lot, because I (used to) use the suspend function frequently.
BTW, when booting into Win98, there is no problem with shutdown.
I have tried downloading new T20-specific drivers from IBM, but applying
them hasn't helped any.
I have also tried doing the Win2K "repair" procedure--again, it makes no
difference.
I have also tried the "Windows Update" route from MS--no difference.
Is there something else?
