I have an i1480 with a 6G disk as well. I once asked IBM about what I could
stuff into it size wise and they said anything up to an 18G disk. It's
really a
bios limitation as far as I understand it. There should be nothing unusual
about
it. Any 2.5 inch drive should work. Getting the latest bios update for it (it
came out about 3 months ago, or so) should let you upgrade to a 20G disk.
I've been waiting for disk prices to fall a bit and my usage to seriously be
cramped before making the jump.

Bill Morrow noted that the 18G Toshiba disks shut off in a more intelligent
manner, so thats probably what I'll get, over the IBM disks. From what I've
seen in all the laptops I maintain, IBM and Toshiba are the leaders in disk
creation, with IBM always ahead in terms of size, but Toshiba being right up
there with them in terms of quality. Others make laptop disks as well, but
I haven't had much experience with them.

The 18G Toshiba is model MK1814GAV; the 20G is MK1026GAP. I forget
the IBM numbers but going to any place that sells disks will tell you.
