I've had great luck with Xircom combo cards. Now using a CEM 56-100, which
uses dongles. There is a miniport jack available if you don't like the
cables. It's not cardbus, just 16 bit. Works with W9x, NT, Warp, Dos, W311.
All pccards will allow your pcmcia door to close. Just insert the card, and
a little lever will extend from the slot. Just pull it out a bit and flip to
the right, and the tab slides away to allow pcmcia door to close. I've seen
cards like these on ebay for around $50. Since everybody wants 32 bit cards
now, these are discounted and still work great. My TP560, 360 and 730T use
this card perfectly. Yes, there will still be room for a second card with
almost any type of connector. Mine has had a pcmcia cd-rom running along
with the NIC.

Subject: [TPall/none] Combo card advice needed
Since the subject has come up (in a thread on the A21), I need some advice -
I'm in the market for a
network/modem combo card (to free up a pcmcia slot for other devices), but
haven't seen any in the few local
shops that meet all my needs. Here's what I want: (1) 10/100 ethernet + 56k
modem, preferably cardbus;
(2) Modem should be a non-win modem, and 'global class' (recognize non-US
dial
tones etc); (3) must give
access to the second pcmcia slot (and a flat cable emerging from the center
of
its end) when in use;
(4) I must be able to close the pcmcia door on my 560X when the card is
inserted (but cable disconnected)
for carrying - I suppose this means a dongle instead of xjack etc.
Does anyone know which (if any) cards meet these requirements? The least
important requirement is cardbus
most important are (3) and (4).
This is the problem with online research: specs are easy to find but it is
really hard to figure out how these cards
will actually fit on my machine!
Thanks,
David R.
