Have you been eating near the laptop? Sometimes a stray crumb will do this
(ask me how I know:-)
A blast of compressed air (with laptop off) will often fix this.

If the problem is more serious, then yes, IBM should fix this under your
warrantee. They might scare you first
with a call (once they get your machine) informing you that you will have to
pay their repair estimate of
a gazillion dollars, but if you tell them you don't have a gazillion dollars
and use the codeword "escalate" then
you should be OK.
