I bought my 600E with the CD-ROM and bought my DVD drive on eBay
for $75 the same day. I already had a Margi card, but it turns out
that changing to PowerDVD makes software MPEG-2 decoding more than
good enough. I still kept the Margi pc card since it lets me have
video out.
As for the 770 models, the prices I came up with are for plain-jane
770s with DVD and the video enhancement card, so you should be fine
for DVD playback, but I think they were all MMX models.
