Not mentioned in other posts: The 770ED is also a PII (mine is 266MHz).

I think it's a trivial difference. I carried the 600X in my knapsack, with no padding, no case, or anything, every single day for 7 months, trekking all around a big city with it; and I used it during just about all of my waking hours during this period. I used it in live performance settings. I moved it around the office all the time. I think I spilled liquid in it. The machine never suffered any detectable wear during this 7-month abuse period.

Now, my 770ED has suffered markings on the LCD screen, presumably from pressure from the keyboard while I carry the machine. This also happened to a Compaq Armada (repackaged DEC) I'd had. But this never happened to the 600X.

Weight difference...I vaguely remember it being ~5 vs. ~7.5? It's a noticeable difference, and also a big size difference. I never hesitated to carry my 600X around, but my 770ED is just a pain to carry, even when I leave the (huge) DVD drive at home.

Again, the 770ED was just something of a more robust machine...but hardly as portable, and less powerful (as it was older). And more expensive when new. But better video features, for sure. (But that may just be the 770ED, and not the other 770 models.)

No built-in network on either one. Just built-in modem. USB yes, firewire no. The 770ED had video in/out (with dongle); the 600X didn't. But this might be a feature of the "E" models. The 600X I had didn't have a DVD.
