There is no easy way to remove those passwords. That is by
design so they are secure.
You have to re-program a chip on the motherboard, or perhaps
even replace that chip. I'm not sure if you can get to the
disk at all... perhaps using OnTrack Data Recovery or
some very expensive service. (www.ontrack.com)
But please keep us all informed as to what you try and what
actually works.
Good luck,

Subject: Error 173 -- 163 and supervisor password on 770
Hi.. I had posted a query regarding supervisor password reset on 770.
Thanks for the replies. I am re-wording the query. My 770 is almost three
years old. The supervisor (and HD) password were set but not known to me.
The laptop does not have a power-on password. Now day-before the CMOS
battery died so when I try to boot the laptop, I get errors "173 -- 163"
after the memory check. I figure out that the error is Date/Time error
and that to set the date and time, I need the supervisor password.
But I do not have this password. So I tried to move the hard-disk to a
friend's 770 only to realize that the HD does have a password. I didn't
know that it would have one since it never asked me on my laptop during
boot.
Is there a way to boot my laptop when the 173 and 163 error comes with
out the supervisor password? Thanks again!! Any pointers will really be
appreciated.
Gaurav
