Many of you may recall my post about a dead LCD from a few days ago. Thanks
for the many good responses, I have fixed my laptop.

On the Keyboard control card (FRU 69H7913) there is a normally open Micro
switch labled "SW1" This switch is the sensor for the lid, open (switch
open) or closed (switch shorted or closed). One of the replies I received
off list noted that sometimes the switch will get jammed making the unit
think the lid is down.

***To fix my unit I removed the keyboard disconecting the ribbon cables in
the process, and removed the keyboard bezel. I then pulled apart the switch
and found that the spring inside of it had turned sideways, effectively
leaving the switch in the closed position. Using a small pair of tweezers I
removed the spring, put it back in vertically and reassembled the switch. I
then installed the keyboard and keyboard bezel opposite of removal.

Booted the unit up and BINGO! The screen works normally again.

Net $$ cost to me $000.00 and about 6 hours of reading the IBM page and
posting to every thinkpad forum I could find.

Thanks for the help

Greg

*** do not attempt this unless you are more than halfway mechanically
inclined and are familiar with ESD safe guards. If you do not know what ESD
stands for I suggest you do not undertake this project. Always wear a
grounding strap and avoid working on a carpeted floor. For best results
perform all work at an ESD ground station with a quality ground mat. With
surface mount components found in most thinkpads it is possible to do severe
damage to your unit by a static discharge.
