Just a second, there is at least one more option. A few months
ago, the mounting Java errors and expiring security
certificates (the latter can be partly dealt with) caused me to
seek a replacement for Netscape 3.04 ("the last stable
version") for my lowly 701.

At the time there was much disenchantment about the instability
of IE 5.5, so I went with the consensus, which was IE 5.01 SP 1.
I have been quite surprised and pleased by 5.01's performance.
It actually loads pages faster than 3.04, though if there were
a fixed version of Netscape, I would prefer it because of
Netscape's more sensible design in general, and better handling
of bookmarks in particular.

Long ago I did try IE 4, but removed it immediately. Awful
on this computer.

I didn't have to remove 3.04, and still use it from time to
time when Java is not a factor. When images are not a factor
(remember when the 'net was 99.9% text?) and the file is
already local, I might use viewhtml
http://www.ozemail.com.au/~ksolway/
which loads far faster than either Netscape or IE. And the
text is always in the colours and fonts that *you* have chosen.
Ah, reading, that simple pleasure ...
