Laptop battery failure on TP 600e

Hi people,

Hope you may be able to shed some light on this. I have a 3 year old
TP600e, with original battery. Been very careful with it but now I think
it's died. But I need to be
sure before I part with £170 (sterling) for a new one.

So - the amber light is continually flashing. In power meter the battery
icon has a
red diagonal line through it and 0% showing. Despite leaving it on mains
but not powered up the battery will not take any charge.

This situation happened very quickly, over a few days, although I have
been getting progressivly less running time over the last 6 months or
so.
