Speaking from experience, the ATI Rage chipset does not support multiple
monitors driven separately on W2K.

My solution was to get the Thinkpad Dock (doesn't it also work with the
X20?) and install a PCI video card in it. In fact, I use the SGI 1600SW
17.3" flat panel as my primary monitor connected to a Number Nine card when
I'm docked and use the TP screen as my secondary screen.

Multiple monitors is fantastic when programming or doing many things at once
:-)

Paul,

I don't think that W2k on the ATI Rage cards supports multiple monitors
driven separately. This is what I recall from some time ago using an A20p
and two monitors. I don't know if this is a limitation of the card or of the
W2k OS. Others here may have more insight.

Subject: Multiple monitors on X20 with Win2K

I'm trying to get multi-monitor operation configured on my X20. I'm running
Win2K, which is meant to natively support multiple monitors, as did Win98.
I can get it to mirror the LCD display to an external monitor just fine,
but I can't get it to drive the monitors separately... calling up the
display control panel shows only a single monitor (although, frustratingly,
it lists the display as "(Multiple Monitors) on ATI RAGE MOBILITY-M AGP".
The ATI control panel seems to offer some features that allow for separate
control of the LCD and monitor, but I've been unsuccessful in getting to do
what I want.

Any ideas?
