Your question raises more questions. What was your original preload? I have to
assume it was W98.

Did you "upgrade" your HD to NTFS after installing NT4? Got SP5 or higher
installed? Reason I ask is because if you attempt to upgrade your NT4
installation, W2K will automatically "upgrade" your NT partition to NTFS5 which
NT4 can't read without SP5 or higher, and you could wind up with a system that
won't boot to either OS.

Are you considering installing W2K as a dual boot with NT4 or is it your
intention to simply wipe it? Have you thought about ways to recover your system
if necessary? Which HD do you have, the 10GB or the 20GB?

I would suggest that you wipe the HD and start from scratch. FDISK and FAT32 (*)
FORMAT the drive as C: of 2.1GB, D: of at least 2GB, E: of at least 2GB and F:
of 1GB. Run your recovery to C: and get the system stable. Install W2K to D: in
a dual boot with W98 and install any required W2K drivers and updates. Load your
APPS to E: and use F: for your files and DOCS.

This load will enable you to always recover the unit in the case of a
catastrophic failure by running the W98 recovery utility to C: and won't affect
the remainder of the drive. Makes backing up your files from the F: partition to
a CD or other media a cinch also.

* AFAIK, with the introduction of the A & T series the recovery utility for W98
no longer requires the C: partition to be formatted in FAT16. If this is not the
case, somebody please correct me. I know that my 600X doesn't require this with
the W2K recovery CD but _does_ with the W98 recovery CD.

Regards,

James
