I would have to agree with David. There has been a lot of discussion of late WRT
shoehorning large drives into older Thinkpads and overcoming the limits that
appear to be inherent in many of them.
The use of disk overlay software such as DiskManager and similar has long been a
useful tool to break these limits. But they all rely on the drive being
recognized as _something_ by the BIOS, regardless of the size reported. In my
experiences with trying to break the apparent 6.4GB limit on the 755 and other
series, the units simply won't boot at all with anything larger. I've tried
Travelstars and Fujitsus from 8GB to 20GB with no success, the units simply
won't recognize the larger drives and freeze up. Yes, I'm using the "new" style
shells.
What say you Bill M., our HD Guru, any hope of overcoming these BIOS limits?
Anyone else had any success with overlay software on older Thinkpads, 755s and
760s in particular?
Regards,
James
