OK, I happen to have 1) a TP701, 2) a 18GB Toshiba drive that is formatted
for a TP600, but not currently in it. So, for the purpose of
experimentation, I took the 2GB TravelStar out of its caddy and put the
18GB Toshiba in it.

The Toshiba has OS/2 boot manager as its first partition and OS/2 Warp 4,
Win98 and W2K install on it (the W2K boot loader controls both Windows).

When I booted the TP701, I did reach the boot manager menu, which means
the HD is recognized at least to some extent. However, when I select
either option on the menu, I get a message "Selected partition is not
formatted, hit any key". When I press Fn+F1 and page down to page 4, I
see: "Hard Disk: Not Installed".

So it appears that formatting and partitioning a large drive (18GB) in a
machine that recognizes such drives (TP600) and putting it into the TP701
doesn't work. I didn't see the point of trying anything else, since I
intend to keep what's on the Toshiba.

In any case, with all the respect I have for the TP701, I fail to see what
sense it makes to put a 18GB drive in it.
