Lots of lowlifes hang out on eBay. It was even worse on Yahoo when it
was free (it was almost impossible to buy legal software there).
Hopefully now that Yahoo charges fees the software pirates will not list
so frequently.

Any owner of such a machine should have quickly noticed and complained
if IBM did such a thing. In any case if the machine is causing IBM lots
of problems they will probably replace almost everything, or even get
you a new unit. Giving you a new unit is a lot cheaper in the long run
than shipping, diagnosing and fixing an ailing machine.

By "owner" I take it you mean "thief". No legitimate owner would remove
a serial number.
