While you're correct that the lack of a serial number should raise all sorts of
red flags, it's not as difficult to remove from the BIOS as you make it appear.

There's more than one person on the list whose Thinkpad will display their name
in the Serial No. field when it's checked.

And for Dominique, the UUID is the Unique User ID No. which is part of the
wireless security system in many of the newer Thinkpads.
