I use the pin-bending method, this way you only hurt the drive
(which is replaceable). I can have a look at mine if necessary
and tell you which pins I bent, but from memory it was the two at
the very end.

You need to get the pin issue sorted before the 755 will recognise
the drive.

Yup that is the problem .

There is a group of four at the very end .
You want to isolate the two pins at the very end , the upper and the lower
one.

Best way IMHO is to unsolder the 2 pins of the connector which is very
easy.
Then run an X-acto knife around the pin to make the hole in the flex cable a
little bigger .
The 2 Hard Drive pins are now isolated and you can always go back.

To get into the Bios of most older thinkpads :
Hold down the F1 key while you power up the machine.

Subject: Thinkpad 755 with 6.4gig HD?

I have been readingin past messages that it is possible to install a 6.4gig
hard disk on my Thinkpad 755CD.

My main question is -how-?

I have tried updating the BIOS - No luck

Tried IBM Disk Manager 2000 - Always comes up with error 174.
Don't know how to get into the CMOS setup on my 755CD so not sure whether
I'm doing it right. Disk Manager seems to place some files at the start of
my hard disk drive when I install it, so that it can recognise 2.1gig plus,
but it does this to my old drive, it does recognise my new drive.

Also I'm using the connectors from my previous 810meg drive.
(Heard something about bending two of the pins to make it work, is this
true, if so what do I do?)

Can't copy from 1 drive to another because 755cd only has room for 1 drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Daint
