It's a video driver problem. You're choosing some driver or resolution combination that isn't compatible with your hardware. Boot back into Safe Mode and then set video to standard VGA (640x480x16 color). Then you should be able to boot normally to Windows and install the latest IBM video driver for the system. After that you'll be able to switch to higher resolutions. Just be sure to test the resolution first before accepting and applying the changes. If you're using the IBM drivers then they should restrict you to only valid settings. The Windows Start-up screen may well stay small when you have things set on higher resolution. Don't let that worry you as long as things look fine in Windows.
