I have an Intel/Xircom combo card in an A21p. The ethernet
part seems to work fine with Win2000 and also worked out
of the box with Sun Solaris x86 version 8. However, the
modem part is a Xircom Win modem. It will not work with
Solaris (or probably Linux or other non-windows OSs). I
have also had poor connections and a refusal to connect
dialing through a hotel phone system in Greenbelt Maryland.
A TDK PCMCIA modem connected right off using the same phone
system so I blame the Xircom modem. Since then, IBM has
posted a modem update for the Xircom for the A21p so maybe
things will be better but I don't know that.
I have no experience with the 3Com but I do know that the
ethernet part is different enough from 3Com PCI ethernet
cards that the normal Solaris 3com drivers will not work
with the miniPCI card. If you are running only Windows,
that will not matter.
